Megarry was the horse with the most experience in the massive field for the opener in the Curragh and he put that to good use with a winning performance.
Some 23 horses went to post for this six furlong juvenile maiden and Megarry was always prominent under Gary Carroll.
The 13/2 shot was pushed along to lead racing into the final quarter of a mile and was ridden outside the final furlong to try and see off newcomer Sweet Delta Dawn
He found plenty in the final 150 yards to beat the promising Sweet Delta Dawn (8/1) by a length and a-half. Grand City Hall kept on for third at 10/1.
Trainer Gavin Cromwell said: "I think I got it wrong with this fella a few times and he should have won his maiden before now.
“He has the experience and Gary sent him on good and early as we know he stays seven. It’s nice to win a maiden here and the prize money is very good.
“He was a little bit keen the last day and he’ll probably go on any ground.”
Megarry had three previous outings with the pick of them coming in Roscommon where he finished second.
