Mangan - no firm plans for Next Week

Fri 18th Sep 2009, 17:28

Grand National winning trainer Jimmy Mangan's Next Week made all to narrowly win the South West Bins Novice Hurdle at Listowel today, providing some respite for bookmakers with the defeat of 11/10f Pires

Giant-sized Next Week, second in the Kerry National on Wednesday, did make what could have been a costly mistake at the final flight but the gelding responded gamely to eventually win by a head from Pires.

Afterwards Mangan reported “Next Week needs that good ground and won't run on heavy ground - the ground was just that bit soft at Cork on his last run.”

He added “he has a bit of class but Andrew (McNamara) did say that this two miles trip was too short and he is probably right. He seems a straightforward enough type but won't go chasing until next season.”
