Dermot Weld’s Late Rosebud in the first-time visor outclassed her seven rivals in the seven furlong auction maiden for three-year-olds at Listowel.

She swept by the 7/4 favourite Madam Mo with a furlong and a half to go and powered away under Pat Smullen for a wide-margin eight and a half lengths success at odds of 9/4.

Prior to this outing Late Rosebud had been expensive to follow as she hadn’t got her head in front in six outings. However, she did have three placings to her name including on debut at the Curragh on heavy ground so today’s conditions didn’t faze her.

“It was obviously a very weak race, but the visor helped and she handled the ground better than most. She travelled well and handled conditions very well. She’s been running consistently all year and was entitled to win,” Pat Smullen said.

She was nibbled at in the betting ring from 11/4 on opening show while Madam Mo, who came in second, was supported this morning at 5/2. There was a seven lengths gap back to Kevin Prendergast’s Silver Lightening in third at 7/2.
