Division one of the Mares Bumper, the Ronan Lawlor Memorial Mares Flat Race, went to the father and son team of Ronnie & Johnny O’Neill as they combined to score with Kymin's Way
The 6yo daughter of Stowaway (who the O'Neill's stand) was running in her sixth bumper today and she was sent off the 7/2 second favourite.
She made all the running and despite being strongly challenged up the home straight by Shuilamach and Silverpockets she pulled out more close home and scored by three parts of a length at the line.
Shuilamach had to settle for second at 13/2 for Paul Nolan and Mikey Fogarty while Silverpockets was a length and three parts back in third at 7/1 for Robert Murphy and Nina Carberry.
The Harry Kelly trained newcomer She Knows Best went off the 2/1 favourite but she disappointly pulled up.
Ronnie O'Neill, who trains locally in Kells, Co Kilkenny, said afterwards: "She’s tough and today was her last chance in bumpers. I have a full-brother to her at home who will be heading to the sales and I’m happy she has won today.
"I think she came up against some half-decent mares before but she is a relentless galloper and the extra furlong today helped her.
"Jumping will be her game and I think she will stay three miles."
After the race Mikey Fogarty was given a two day ban by the stewards for excessive use of the whip aboard the runner-up Shuilamach.
