The colours of David Bobbett, successful with Mr Adjudicator at Galway on the Friday evening of festival week, were carried to victory again in race one at Cork’s Bank Holiday fixture as Karanelle (7/2) took the opening mares’ maiden hurdle.
The four-year-old daughter of Nathaniel ran some good races last year on the level for Johnny Murtagh without quite getting her head in front, but here she travelled well throughout for Robbie Power who produced her to lead before the final flight.
She jumped the last quicker than Lucky Phil (5/2 fav), and went away to beat that one by five lengths, with another length and-a-quarter back to Glebe Girl (10/1).
The winner was building on a sixth place finish on her hurdling bow at Limerick last month, and was getting off the mark on her third start for present trainer Jessica Harrington.
The winning rider Robbie Power said: "She's very small and her jumping needs to improve a bit, she did improve from the first day though. She's a bit inconsistent with her jumping but has a good jump in her, as well as having a great cruising speed.
"She quickened up well but it was a very moderate mares' race, she's hopefully open to more improvement though. She has form on the Flat over 6f and 7f so when she gets her jumping a bit slicker and sharper she'll be alright."
