Coole Avenue threw down the gauntlet to Jupitor in Limerick’s beginners’ chase but the latter was up to the challenge and won by a length.

Jupitor was odds on this morning to score for Paul Nolan after coming in second at Navan earlier in the month. However, he went off at 15/8 and lost favouritism to Kashline (7/4) who finished third. Kashline though was 26 lengths behind the scrap for first.

Jupitor grabbed the lead jumping the fourth last in this two miles six contest. Coole Avenue (14/1) pressed him from the second last but couldn’t get on terms in the run-in at the end of this trip that took some getting in the heavy ground.

Paul Nolan was represented by his brother James who said: “All credit to Mikey Fogarty who said he was going to have to make use of his jumping. He was adamant he was going to do it his own way. He is a really big part of the team and he deserves all the credit for this.

“Today was the plan. We were worried it might come a bit soon after the last day. He stays, jumps and likes soft ground. We’ll see what Noel [O’Brien, handicapper] does with him. We might aim him at a novice handicap at Navan that Panther Claw won last year.”

This was a double for Mikey Fogarty today in Limerick as he won the mares maiden hurdle on Romantic Fashion
