Seventeen year old Joey Sheridan completed his second career double at Dundalk today as the apprentice jockey landed the ASM Accountants Apprentice Handicap on the Denis Hogan trained Sir Ottoman
Sheridan, who spent three and a half years riding out during various school holidays for Champion Trainer Aidan O'Brien in Ballydoyle, was on the mark in the half-hour earlier maiden with Stela Star and doubled his tally with Sir Ottoman, which beat Highly Approved by a head.
Sir Ottoman was picked up for just E5,000 having won Laytown's Claimer for English trainer Ivan Furtado on September 11 and afterwards today's winning trainer Hogan stated “all the credit goes to James and Stephen (McAuley, owners) as they were adamant once the declarations were out for Laytown that they were taking him.
“He went and won well and there were a lot of claims (nine) in for him so we were lucky they were the ones that came out of the hat. He was a great purchase and he looked to love the beach so I'd say this place is ideal for him.
“He'll compete away here for the winter and hopefully he can win again.
“The horses are running super and I have to say a big thanks to my staff. I have a brilliant staff and they are a joy to work with.
“When they are running well it makes it easier for everybody.”
