Ballydoyle colt Homesman came with a strong late surge to land the spoils in the Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh.

The winner's stable-mate Finn McCool cut out the running in the Group 3 mile contest but gave way inside the final furlong to Born To Play

He couldn't repel the late run of Homesman, and Ryan Moore, however, as the War Front colt got on top in the closing stages for a head victory at odds of 5/1.

The winner had been no match for Irishcorrespondent when dropped back to the same trip for a conditions race at the venue last time.

“Ryan gave him a great ride. He's a big massive horse as you can see for a three-year-old and he was a little bit immature mentally but he's coming,” said O'Brien.

“That's why we put the blinkers on him just to try and get him together.

“I said he'd probably prefer better ground and a mile-and-a-quarter is probably his trip.

“We could look at the Irish Derby maybe. He got the mile well today and got a mile-and-three in Limerick.

“We could also look at the King Edward at Ascot for him. He's a big four-year-old really.”

Moore added:- "He's a fine big horse and covers the ground easily. He'll get better and there is plenty to work on."
