Conor Hoban brought Cailin Coilteach with a late run to win comfortably by half-a-length in Dundalk’s opening six furlong handicap at odds of 11/2.
Trainer Andrew Oliver praised Hoban as he had to change tactics during the race. He said: “I’m delighted with that. A lot of credit has to go to Conor as that wasn’t the plan. The plan was to be up there with the pace.
“Conor said the pace was very fast in the race so he allowed her to settle and she flew home.
“She’s in the sales next week (Goffs). If she wasn’t at the sales she would be coming back to race over six furlongs as she has plenty of pace and won with a bit in hand.” Cailin Coillteach was shedding her maiden tag at the 12th time of asking. She had finished third on her last two outings at Dundalk in one mile handicaps but relished today’s emphasis on sprinting.
Top-weight Almadaa came home second at 6/1 while 25/1 shot Charismas Birthday completed the placings.
5/1 favourite Forbidden City finished eighth of the 14 runners.
