Edge a Definitive Winner

Sat 29th Aug 2009, 19:31

Definitive Edge was a beaten favourite on his first three starts but the Overbury gelding has really got the hang of things now and he made it three on the bounce when making all to take the Easyfix Rubber Products Novice Hurdle in impressive style.

The seven-year-old, who has been plying his trade with great success in the West (won his bumper at Ballinrobe and maiden hurdle at Sligo) flicked over the easyfix hurdles with great alacrity and he didn't need to be put under any pressure by Ruby Walsh to see off Good Luck Chuck by eleven lengths.

Winning trainer, Willie Mullins said: "He is improving nicely and he'll go for another novice now, maybe in Listowel. He improved his jumping from Sligo and he seems to get his stamina from his dam's side. He isn't too slow either though, as he showed when winning a bumper at Ballinrobe so I wouldn't be that worried about dropping back in distance either. How his jumping would stand up to going that bit faster over shorter, I don't know."

Definitive Edge is owned by the Friends In The North Syndicate, who have seen their colours carried with distinction by Ryanair Chase hero, Imperial Commander.

The field for this two and a half miler was reduced to seven with the defections of Connectivity (lame) and Declan's Lad (stiff – of course he won at Wexford last night).
