Eddie in Seventh heaven at Dundalk
A really game effort from An Cat Dubh wasn't enough to hold the flying late run of Seventh Avenue - took off when switched to the outer under Shane Foley, in division two of the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden (Colts & Geldings) at Dundalk. The winner, a first-time out 33/1 shot was bringing up a double for his trainer Eddie Lynam, victorious in the opener as well with Balmont Mast
Lynam said: "He's a nice horse. He'll improve a lot and he could be anything.
"I'm not sure what he beat or the sort of race that was.
"We thought he'd improve for the run and it is unusual for one of mine to win first time out."
A gamble on Red Laser (50s into 12s) went astray as he could only finish in mid-division.
Fran Berry rode favourite Canaille here and he reported that his mount became very upset in the stalls and missed the break. He therefore never got a chance to get into the race.
With the previous 7.10 race not off until 7.18, the 25 minute interval and start time of 7.35 for this race went out the window.
Another withdrawal at the start – Bigearsonmyright – didn't help and the scheduled 7.35 eventually got underway at 7.50.
