There was an unfortunate end to the six-furlong handicap at Dundalk as promising apprentice Luke Dempsey took a crashing fall from Toberton
The gelding had cut out the running before being headed by Sylvan Mist and Fergal Lynch inside the final furlong.
Toberton fell to the ground in the closing stages, leaving Syvlan Mist to come home clear by five lengths.
Dempsey was quickly attended to by paramedics and the early signs are positive with initial reports that he was conscious and moving.
Understandably winning trainer Eddie Lynam, recording a double on the night, was concerned about the young rider:-
“In light of what's happened it's a hollow victory and fingers crossed the lad is okay.”
Turf Club Doctor John Kennedy later updated the press on the situation:-
"He's very confused and dazed but otherwise seems okay. He's able to move his arms and legs. He's been taken to Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for examination."
