Delta Force sent punters home happy at Galway when justifying strong support in the Monami Construction INH Flat Race.

The Charles Byrnes-trained gelding had shown promise in three previous outings and was well backed from 5/1 this morning to be sent off the 11/8 favourite.

Ray Barron gave the son of Fastnet Rock a patient ride before making headway on the outer at the home turn but edged right under pressure in the straight.

He got on top inside the final 100 yards to beat Bonnebosq by a length and three quarters with Amina a further three quarters of a length away in third.

Byrnes said, "He gave him a good ride. He was out on the better ground, the winners are coming out there. He was a bit far back but they bunched up then and he was okay.

“He might run again Sunday in the winners race. We'll see how he is.

“He liked the bit of ease in the ground, it was too quick for him the last day in Newton Abbot.”
