John Robinson’s Cool Warrior ground out a 14/1 success in the extended three mile handicap chase at Roscommon for Ben Dalton.
The veteran 12-year-old moved into the lead before three out and kept up the gallop to win by half a length from Oscar Leney (5/1). Naughty Molly was the eyecatcher coming from ‘a mile behind’ and making up ground hand over fist after the last to take third at 14/1 partnered by Derek Fox. She was beaten a length and a quarter in total.
“He travelled and he jumped well. He needs that good to firm ground. The owner Pete (Lawler) wasn’t able to travel as he had to go to get a checkup in hospital,” trainer John Robinson explained.
“He’s won two chases and four point-to-points for me now. We were thinking about going to England with him.”
Tony Martin’s well-fancied Easy Vic was pulled up and found to be lame post-race while Blaze Of Fire spoiled his chance with a mistake at the third last when travelling well.
