Focus in Fairyhouse's John Thomas McNamara Series Handicap Hurdle was on one horse, Getaway Katie for most of the race and while almost a furlong clear at halfway, was overhauled by winner Carrig Carol in the closing stages.

Getaway Katie (18/1) was still clear rounding the final turn, matching at 1.2 in-running, but was headed by the Peter Croke-trained Carrig Carol approaching the final flight, and tired on the run-in to finish fifth.

Carrig Carol maintained her gallop to the line, defeating We'llhavewan and afterwards winning jockey Brian Lawless said “the horse in front had a big lead and I was worried for a while but knew I had loads underneath me turning in.

“She won going away, she handled the conditions lovely and was tough. Hopefully she will progress.”
