An Fear Ciuin (‘The Quiet Man’ as Gaeilge) opened his account at the eighth attempt when making all under Fran Berry in the Audrey McGrath Memorial Handicap at Wexford.
The son of Galileo has improved since stepped up in trip, and the 11/4 chance appreciated this first opportunity at nearly a mile and a half by staying on strongly for a decisive success.
The David Wachman-trained gelding asserted over a furlong out and stayed on strongly to beat 15/8 favourite Bwindi by over three lengths. Hallo Rosie was a further three quarters of a length back in third.
Fran Berry said, "He took no interest in Killarney the last day, he was very green behind the bridle the whole way and only for the long straight he managed to get going and stay on.
“I was very happy with him today as once I jumped I was able to make the running and I was able to use his stamina but he is very lazy. He should have a future as a hurdler and in staying handicaps next year as he is bred to stay."
