Calle Aneto made the most of a low draw and a lowly handicap mark to get his head in front in Sligo’s apprentice handicap.

From gate three he was able to sit off the pace set by Ariahey before coming through at the furlong pole to deliver his challenge. He powered home from there and held fast-finishing Dancingwithangels by a neck at the end.

Successful jockey Kate O’Brien said: “I had plenty of horse under me and I was just waiting for a gap to come. It’s very good ground and there’s a lovely covering of grass.”

Calle Aneto was returned the 3/1 favourite while placed horses Dancingwithangels and Ariahey were 9/1 and 16/1 respectively. Bomber Jackson kept on for fourth having raced in rear throughout from his wide draw.

This was Calle Aneto’s second career victory on his 28th start. It has been a long time between drinks as his first win came in June 2009. He is trained by Joanna Morgan.
