Duchess Andorra finally got off the mark as she made all to take the Listowel Track Fillies Maiden under Colm O’Donoghue for Joanna Morgan.
The three-year-old daughter of Duke Of Marmalade was placed six times on her previous nine efforts and she just went down by half a length to Quartz on her last start at Dundalk.
Available at 8/1 this morning she opened on-course at 7’s before being backed into 5/1 at the off.
Sent straight into the lead by O’Donoghue she was ridden from two and a half furlongs out. She had all her rivals off the bridle under two furlongs out and she kept on well from there to score by two and a quarter lengths. Tirghra kept on to take second at 9/1 under Kevin Manning for Jim Bolger while the 13/8 favourite Adeste Fideles could only manage a disappointing third, a further length and a three parts back for Aidan and Joseph (a pound overweight) O’Brien.
Joanna Morgan said afterwards: "That's fantastic, she is very genuine. She is actually genuine, she just kept running up against a better horse. She didn’t really shirk the issue anytime.
"It’s great that she has won and it’s great that she won for Micheal (winning owner Micheal Ryan) as all the troop are here."
