Grade One winning juvenile hurdler A Wave Of The Sea struck at the second time of asking over fences in the Follow Kilbeggan On Facebook Beginners Chase.
It mightn’t have been a completely comfortable watch through the two and a half miler for supporters of the 4/6 shot, but his class shone through strongly at the end.
In the J P McManus-silks Mark Walsh crossed the line eleven lengths to the good on Joseph O’Brien’s runner, with Lever Du Soleil taking the runner-up spot.
“He was the best horse in the race and all he had to do was jump around. He jumped well on the whole and just made a few novicey mistakes,” reported Walsh.
“He was in a different league to them, and the four-year-old allowance is a big help.”
On a trying day for the Joseph O’Brien outfit after Shane Crosse’s positive Covid 19 test, this was a double for the Piltown yard after Thinking Of You rsquo;s Limerick win earlier.
S.W. Flanagan, rider of Future Proof trained by Noel Meade, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a number of mistakes in running, wasn't travelling and pulled up.
