After winning the third with Kalisma Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen doubled-up in the fifth, naasracecourse.com Handicap, as Katimavik recorded his second win of the season.
The four-year-old son of Invincible Spirit won at the Curragh last month before finishing second on his next start again at the Co Kildare venue.
He was ninth of twenty-two in the Cambridgeshire on his most recent outing and he was sent off at 5/1 today.
Settled in mid-division he came with his challenge on the outer with under two furlongs to race.
He was ridden to the front from the furlong pole and he kept on well in the closing stages to score by a length and a half. Angel Of Joy finished second at 7/1 under Colin Keane for Ger Lyons while the Adrian McGuinness trained Oor Jock (9/1) was a further two and a half lengths back in third with Gary Phillips in the saddle. Wexford Opera was sent off the well-supported 9/2 favourite (13/2 last night and from 11/2 on-course) and she finished a disappointing fifth under Kevin Manning for Jim Bolger.
Dermot Weld said afterwards: "That was a nice double and the horses have been running exceptionally well all year.
"He's a model of consistency, and that is probably his right trip. It was a good, strong ride from Pat."
STEWARDS REPORT
The Stewards received a complaint from Georgios Pakidis, trainer of Papabili placed twelfth of 13 runners, that he was unhappy with his rider, C.P. Hoban, in that he did not use his whip once during this race. Evidence was heard from the trainer and rider concerned. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion C.P. Hoban had ridden appropriately at all times during this race, albeit without resorting to the whip, and felt no Rule had been broken and so they took no further action.
