Fair play to the handicapper, he's given him a chance. He has a bit of age about him now and he had a bit of a lull for most of the year.

It was a lovely performance. I was a little bit worried turning him out again very quickly,. The idea of running the last day was just to sharpen him up. I have him in the Constantine Stakes at York and in the Ayr Gold Cup and he just needed to learn a little bit more as he's only started sprinting this year. I was very happy with the way he travelled and finished out in Tipperary and I knew it would wake him up. This was a little bit of an afterthought, when I saw the race I thought if he came out of his race well he'd be very alive from the five and hopefully he would do something like that. I'm very pleased but now I'm not sure whether we'll go to York or Ayr as I might put him away and train him for Dubai. It's a nice headache to have and we'll discuss it with the owners and see what way we want to do it. If you are going to Dubai you have to make a decision half way through the season and train him for it. I can't be taking on the big races and then going to Dubai as an afterthought to be fair to the horse. I think he is tailormade for Dubai, off a fast pace he comes there with one good run. He could pick up a lot of place money and, if they go hard, he could land on the line. If I've ever had a horse tailormade for Dubai, it's him. Dubai will be first preference.

That was grand and Donagh was very good on him,. He got a lovely lead from Kieran Cotter's horse. He might have hit the front a little soon but he had to commit. I was getting a bit worried when I saw San Andreas coming as he stays well but he's done it nicely in the end. He's 92 now and he might be 95 after today realistically. We'll look at the Bold Lad for him. I'll have to scrap the Sovereign Path now, we were eyeing that, but obviously he's sharpening up now and he's still a little bit unexposed over this trip. We might try five with him on a galloping track later on when he learns to gallop at speed. We've always trained him as a seven-furlong/mile horse so we still have to teach him how to gallop at speed. He seems to be coping quite well at the moment.

He was very unlucky the last day, he had a very bad trip around the outside and he just got rolling a bit too early. We freshened him up and I'm delighted as I took a chance running him over six. There was no seven-furlong race for him and it was champions finals day and I really wanted to support it because it is a good thing. Well done to Jim (Martin) and his team for putting it on. I was keen to have a runner and took a chance and it paid off. I've learned that I have options now because he is not just a seven-furlong horse as I had him pigeonholed. We will look at six and seven-furlong races on the turf but as I alluded to the last time, I am targeting the Sovereign Path in Leopardstown on Champions Weekend. It was a very fast pace up front and he (Donagh) rode with a good clock in his head and picked up the pieces. I wouldn't get carried away with the distance, as the pace did fall away and he benefitted from a very good ride. He will run on Sunday (at Naas) under the 5lb penalty. We have about 18-20 horses for the new Flat season. We need to build a bit more but we are happy with how they are running.

He did that well. I was a little bit concerned stepping up two grades from his last win but he's obviously improved a little bit. We left him nice and fresh for today so maybe that is the way to have him. I'm a little bit surprised because I thought he would take the run in that grade to get him back in the groove. It would have been a sterner test than his previous run so he surprised me in a nice way. We'll take him home and see if we can find another race for him up here. I don't think the handicapper can be too hard on him and he should be able to get back into a 50-85 race.

It appears they cut their own throat up in front and Donagh was in the right position. He’s won this race two years in a row so he’s a bit like Santa!. We didn’t over race him this year on the turf with an eye on Dundalk and we’ll keep him rolling now while he’s fit and healthy. Hopefully he can pick up another couple of races and maybe he could run in a turf Premier Handicap on fast ground over the seven.

He got a nice positive ride and, excuse the pun, Donagh took no prisoners!. He's a nice horse and the only blips on his form were trainer error when I ran him on soft ground. We might give him a couple more runs up here and then give him a break. He should sneak into some big handicaps on the turf next summer. He's what I call a sharp miler so he gets away with the seven.

We always thought he was a smart horse last year and the ground was too soft for him a few times,.
