We went a good, even gallop with a good horse (Aspire Tower) leading and he showed a good turn of foot from the back of the last. He is more professional and has more options over fences because he is maturing. Hopefully he will be an Arkle type — we went a good strong pace, he has a good cruising speed and stays too. It was very straightforward and he settled well. The others had had runs already this year so, on the flat, I was conscious not to do too much with him and his jumping put him back into the race. He quickened up, lengthened nicely to the last and sorted himself out and he jumped brilliantly. He has a lot of natural ability.

If you look at his form it reads very well and he turned over a hotpot this time last year in Gowran. He missed most of the season and came back to run with credit at Punchestown. We were hoping he could do something like that and he always promised but is thankfully starting to deliver. His jumping is so good and he probably wasn't getting that advantage over hurdles. For a horse of his size he has great agility and with that size, maybe he was that bit weak early in his career. We took a few nice scalps there and hopefully it is on towards Christmas now and find another spot for him.

the ground is perfect for us so I wanted to get the three of them out. It’s not ideal but we let them take each other on and have them ready for Christmas so we know where we are going now. Paul (Townend, on Minella Cocooner) was a shade unlucky having to make all the running and the horse was a little green in front which cost him, as well as the mistake at the last. Take nothing from the winner, who travelled the whole way and jumped well. He had the benefit of getting a lead but did come through and jumped well. He did everything right. Whatdeawant might need a longer trip but was a little more novicey than the other two. They are three nice novices to go to war with at Christmas.

It was a very workmanlike performance. I think the hood had the desired effect and maybe he settled too much. Whether we'll use it again or not I don't know. It certainly did what we needed it to do and I think he was just lazy in front. That ground is very deceiving, it's much more testing than it looks. Our fella had a good blow after it and I think there is plenty of improvement left in him. I'd imagine we'll be looking at two-and-a-half if not three in future. We certainly won't be coming back in trip anyway. I'd imagine he'll be put in the Ballymore and Albert Bartlett and we'll have a look nearer the time. I won't make any decision now what direction he goes but it would be one of those two I'd imagine.

He is a beautiful-looking horse and I think he was a little bit more expensive than a Rolls-Royce Phantom! But I'm pretty sure Mrs Thomson will get more fun out of him than a Rolls Royce. He's a big baby and that's why I was keen to teach him and get him to stride out. He is a big baby at home for a five-year-old who had a point to point run and he's not a bumper horse. I imagine he'll go jumping later in the season - he wouldn't have run only the ground was so wet and we said we'd get a run into him. Willie didn't rush him and let him settle in - he didn't have to run this season but it just happened with the weather. I think he'll continue to improve mentally.
