Fahey completes quick double with Barrogstown Girl
Having won the first division with Nans View just over half-an-hour earlier, trainer Jarlath Fahey completed a quick double when Barrogstown Girl landed Division ll of the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Handicap at the Curragh. Tue 22nd OctBarrogstown Girl overcomes plenty of pre-race drama
There was drama before race five in Clonmel when a large tree fell into the parade ring, blocking the entrance and exit, but thankfully no staff or horses were in that part of the enclosure when the incident happened. Thu 05th SepBarrogstown Girl benefits from pace collapse to get up late under Bennett

She battled very well in fairness to her. I was a little bit worried about her bouncing two days after her last run, and about the draw,. Neve said she was game out, galloped and kept going the whole way to the line. She's a very honest little filly. She's probably one that will go hurdling, whether we go now or give her a bit of a break I don't know. We'll have a chat with the owners. She was in an online sale recently and there was no interest in her but (my brother) Mick (Fahey) got her sold to a few friends of his and it's paying dividends for them already. I didn't have a double up until this year and that's my second of the year now. We're just having a great year, the horses have been healthy and well and running well. It's a year that I don't want to see finish but it's great to have had a good year. Hopefully a few of the jumpers can take over now and win a few more for us.

Her form was good - we were a little worried about coming down to a tricky track, but she handled it well. She was down a bit in distance, but we know she is a fairly sharp filly and were happy with her. She is doing job well and Neve gave her a very cool ride. She is owned and bred by my brother Michael and it is great they he is here as he was on holidays the last day she won.

It was her first time over the trip and on a dry surface. She’s like a lot of them she’s been handicapped on soft ground, and we were hoping the dryer ground would work in her favour. She was racing lazy early and got a bit detached. I said to Neve to try and get her home over the trip and don’t go after her until you get over the top of the hill. In fairness, she got her going in time and she came home nicely. She hit the line strong. She’s home bred by the brother Mick and he’s away with all the family in Salou, so I dare say there will be some strong stuff drank over there tonight!. Her dam won over hurdles and you would think up in trip won’t be a problem. She’s still green and a bit raw.
