Arnaud springs 16/1 surprise in Limerick opener
The opening race on day three of the Limerick Christmas Festival, the Freeman Keane Associates 3yo Maiden Hurdle, went to the 16/1 shot Arnaud for his trainer Charles Byrnes. Wed 28th Dec
It was a bit of surprise but jumping is the name of the game and he did do that. On ratings he had a chance but I didn't think he'd be good enough to beat the second horse. He was probably fortunate but they are there to be jumped. He will be kept going for the summer and two miles is as far as he will go. He could go back over hurdles, he is probably better handicapped over hurdles than fences.

If they were all like that the job would be easy. The track, ground and conditions of the race suited him. He had eleven pounds in hand. I'm sure he'll finish up at Cheltenham in some race and he'll maybe go to England in early January too for better ground . for a handy novice race,.
