FormscanBy Michael Graham - HIGH CLASS HERO was last seen finishing runner-up in a Grade 1 novice hurdle over a staying trip at Punchestown in May, and is of obvious interest on his chasing debut. Willie Mullins has commented before that he expects him to be better over fences than hurdles. Shannon Royale has taken the runner-up berth in both of his steeplechases. On both occasions, he was beaten by a Mullins inmate and he has two of them to beat here as the champion trainer also saddles Loughglynn who was a Grade 2 winner over flights. He is more than likely to have a bright future over the bigger obstacles.

I said to Simon in the ring if he had natural progression from his first start over hurdles he could run well here,. He's very laid back at home, we paid an awful lot of money for him and he really didn't show much at home when he got him even though he's a beautiful horse. We've been lucky with a lot of them but he was a real big one for us as Derek puts a lot of money into it. I couldn't even tell him he was flying up the gallops. He's probably a three-mile plus chaser in the making. If he hadn't done something today we were going to have to go back to the drawing board. He was good there, he obviously likes nice ground and there is plenty more to come I'd say. He never travelled. In fairness we have Thomas Reilly at home in the yard, he's ridden a few winners for me, and I put him on him about a month ago. He's after getting him to travel a lot better than he has before at home. I have to put that win down to him as he's been a different horse in the last couple of weeks. You still want to see it on the track and it's brilliant that he's translated that. Whether we go chasing this season or potter around in novice hurdles for the year, I don't know. I don't think he's a winter horse, he handled that ground really well. I'd say we could give him a break in October and bring him back February or March time.

That was a nice performance. It looked like he’ll stay further and he handled the ground. He could be a nice prospect as a winter horse and he’ll go the two and a half mile or three-mile route over hurdles. Whatever he does over hurdles I’d expect him to be better over fences.

He was good and he’s improved. He’s a laidback type of horse and he kept responding. I think he’ll go out in trip as he doesn’t do anything quick. He stays very well and is a great ride — he only gives what you ask for which is always a help. We took a chance running him in a hundred grand race last year. I think he’s improved a lot and I think he’ll improve again.

I was disappointed with him the last day and put cheek pieces on to sharpen him up. He’d fitness on his side but Jack said he was a different horse altogether today and maybe he just needed the run the last day. His jumping was good but he has been disappointing. We’ll probably look for a three-mile handicap somewhere and see what happens.
