Champion Hurdle Tip

Constitution Hill will form a leg of many punters' accumulators at the Cheltenham Festival this year and the Nicky Henderson-trained odds-on favourite looks likely to justify those short odds.

It is therefore sensible to look for place value in the race which could go to Vauban, last year's Triumph Hurdle winner. On his seasonal reappearance, Vauban impressed when giving State man something to think about when finishing second to his stablemate in the Grade 1 Matheson Hurdle in December.

Arkle Tip

It could be a magnificent day for trainer Nicky Henderson who once again saddles the short-priced favourite Jonbon in the Arkle. Jonbon has progressed this year, impressing when winning a Grade 1 at Sandown in December by 8 lengths, since which that form has been boosted by Boothill who finished second that day.

A glance at the betting shows Jonbon will face a strong challenge from the Mullins team from Dysart Dynamo, Appreciate It, El Fabiolo and Saint Roi. El Fabiolo beat his rivals by 19 lengths when last seen at Fairyhouse in December and finished a neck behind Jonbon is the past over hurdles, he represents each-way value at 7-1.

National Hunt Chase Tip

Vincent Finegan presents his Cheltenham Day 1 best tip.

With Facile Vega (Supreme Novices Hurdle) and Constitution Hill (Champion Hurdle) likely to go off at very short odds for their respective races on the opening day of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival it may pay to look elsewhere for some better value. The three miles and six furlong Amateur Riders’ Chase, the final contest on the opening day, could be the race to focus on.

The winner of this race not only requires an abundance of stamina, but also needs to be experienced over fences. Gaillard Du Mesnil fits the bill on both counts and also has good course form having finished third to L’Homme Presse in last season’s Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase.
