THE KING ALFRED THE GREAT HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 4) An enquiry was held to consider the by-passing of the last fence.
The Clerk of the Course, Assistant Clerk of the Course and Head Groundsman were interviewed and shown a recording of the incident.
They explained that due to a horse receiving veterinary treatment after the winning line on the outside of the chase course, their intention was to by-pass the last fence and direct the remaining runners onto the hurdle track.
Due to time restrictions, they were able to correctly implement the by-passing of the last fence however unable to direct the runners onto the hurdle track.
Their explanations were noted, the Stewards were satisfied that the injured horse and the attendees were not placed at any risk.
