Someone You Love (GB) wore earplugs throughout.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Aire Valley Lad (GB), ridden by Sam Coltherd and trained by Sue Smith, which was held up towards the rear before subsequently being ridden considerately from the turn for home to finish sixth of eleven runners, beaten by 27¼ lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions had been to jump off mid-division and get the horse settled before then riding the race as he found it.
Coltherd added that he had found himself further back than ideal due to a strong early pace and the novicey jumping of Aire Valley Lad (GB).
He further added that in his opinion the gelding may be suited to a more galloping track and may further benefit from a step up in trip.
The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied the ride accorded with those instructions.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Brendan Powell reported that Isaac Wonder (IRE), placed fourth, was never travelling; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The Veterinary officer reported that the winner, Away At Dawn (IRE) had bled from the nose.
