Ragamuffin (IRE), trained by Neil Mulholland, had arrived in the Parade Ring without its declared tongue strap or cheekpieces, with the gear then needing to be sourced from the stable yard and fitted on the gelding before going to the start.
After interviewing Mulholland’s representative, the trainer was fined £140 for this offence, which caused a significant delay to the start of race 5.
The performance of Red Force One (GB), which started favourite and was pulled up, was considered.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination, during routine testing revealed Red Force One (GB), to have an irregular heartbeat.
The performance of Nasee (GB), which finished unplaced, was considered.
John Joseph Hanlon’s explanation that the gelding was unsuited by the going which was officially described as Good on the Hurdle course, and in his opinion was riding softer than described, was noted.
Rounding the bend after the winning post with 2 circuits to run, the winner, Hunting Percival (GB), lugged left-handed despite the rider's best efforts crowding Blakeney Point (GB), placed fourth, onto Ragamuffin (IRE), placed fifth, which had to be checked on the rail, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that there was no riding offence involved and it had not improved the placing of Hunting Percival (GB).
It was noted that the winner, Hunting Percival (GB), slipped entering the home bend.
