Prior to this race, Mark Gillard was asked to explain why he was running Avithos (GB) here at Sedgefield on going described as Heavy, Soft in places, having declared the mare a non-runner at Taunton on 22 February 2021 on ground with the same official description.
The Trainer stated that the ground was drying at Taunton and having spoken to the Clerk of the Course at Sedgefield, in his opinion the ground would be more suitable for the mare and he was happy for her to take her chance.
The performance of Calarules (GB), which was pulled up, was considered.
The representative of Tim Vaughan could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
