Permission was given for Signal Twenty Nine (GB) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring.
Prior to this race, J R Jenkins was asked to explain why he was running Mobham (IRE) here at Lingfield on going described as Soft, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Catterick Bridge on 10 May 2021 on ground with the same official description.
Jenkins stated that he was hoping for better ground, but as Mobham (IRE) was declared to run in the first race of the day, he was happy for the gelding to take its chances on the fresh ground today.
The winner, Thermal (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous runs at Nottingham on 28 October 2020, where the filly finished tenth of twelve, beaten by 24 ¼ lengths, and at Kempton on 9 April 2021, where the filly finished twelfth of fourteen, beaten by 9 ¼ lengths.
The Stewards noted Gary Moore’s explanation that, in his opinion, the going at Nottingham was softer than described and Thermal (IRE) was feeling the effects of a long season.
Moore continued that the filly got very hot in the preliminaries at Kempton and may have needed the run.
Thermal (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, Darragh Keenan reported that Compass Point (GB), placed sixth, became unbalanced down the hill and Sophie Ralston reported that Kerrera (GB), placed eighth, hung right-handed throughout.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Chica Del Dia (GB), placed seventh, had lost its right hind shoe.
