A query was raised to consider why Richard Rowe was running Dark Flame (IRE) here at Sandown Park on going described as Heavy, Soft in places, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Newbury on 20 January 2021 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that due to a lack of opportunities caused by the recent spate of abandonments he was happy for Dark Flame (IRE) to take its chance on this occasion.
Spider's Bite (IRE), trained by Neil Mulholland, did not enter the Parade Ring due to difficulty fitting the gelding’s tongue-strap.
Following the race, Tom Scudamore reported that Highest Sun (FR), which started second favourite and was pulled up before the final fence, made a bad mistake at the second-last fence.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Spider's Bite (IRE), which was pulled up, sustained a wound to its right-fore.
