The Veterinary Officer reported that Madera Mist (IRE), trained by Tim Vaughan, appeared to show evidence of possible administration of a substance, with dried blood present on a swelling on the jugular vein.
The trainer’s representative and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed.
The trainer’s representative explained that the mare had been administered Engemycin intravenously the previous day, 14 April 2021, and the Stewards were provided with a copy of the stable’s medical records verifying this to be factual.
The trainer’s representative‘s explanation was noted and being satisfied that Madera Mist (IRE) had received only normal food and water by mouth on the day of racing, the Stewards allowed the mare to run and ordered Madera Mist (IRE) to be routine tested.
A report was forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority for further consideration.
After jumping the fifth-last fence, Whatsdastory (IRE), placed fifth, lugged left-handed into the rail despite the rider’s best efforts to correct the mare, resulting in the winner, Win My Wings (IRE), being tight for room and that mare’s rider having to ease for a number of strides, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Following the race, Tabitha Worsley reported that Rose Of Aghaboe (IRE), placed seventh, made a bad mistake at the first fence.
Ben Poste reported that Lucca Lady (IRE), which was pulled up, was never travelling; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the mare shortly after the race failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The Veterinary Officer further reported that Goodnight Charlie (GB), placed third, lost its left-fore shoe.
