Prior to this race, Rob Summers was asked to explain the reason why he was running Thorpeness (IRE) here at Warwick on going described as Soft, Heavy in places, having reported that the gelding would prefer a quicker surface following its run at Uttoxeter on 19 September 2023.
The trainer’s explanation that Thorpeness (IRE) had had wind surgery and he was happy for the gelding to take its chance on ground that had softened on the day of the race due to morning rain, was noted.
Following the race, Rob Summers reported that Thorpeness (IRE), which was pulled up, made a respiratory noise and was unsuited by the going on this occasion, officially described as Soft, Heavy in places and would benefit from a quicker surface.
