Ballyandy (GB) wore ear plugs which were removed at the start.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race following interference shortly after jumping the final hurdle when the winner, Brio Conti (FR), ridden by Bryony Frost, interfered with Honest Vic (IRE), placed second, ridden by Richard Patrick.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Brio Conti (FR)’s placing as the interference occurred with sufficient distance from the winning post to allow Patrick enough time to mount a challenge against Frost.
In addition, the Stewards deemed that the momentum lost by Honest Vic (IRE) as a result of the interference, was less than the winning margin of a head.
Frost was cautioned for careless riding as she allowed her mount to drift left- handed without timely correction, resulting in Patrick receiving a slight bump.
The winner, Brio Conti (FR), appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Sandown on 2 February 2019 where the gelding was pulled up.
Paul Nicholls’ representative’s explanation that the gelding has come on from on its last run at Sandown, which occurred after a long break, was noted.
Brio Conti (FR) was routine tested.
The performance of Umndeni (FR) which finished unplaced, was considered.
Philip Hobbs could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Umndeni (FR), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Ballyandy (GB), placed third, had post-race heat stress.
