Permission was given for In Arrears (IRE) to go early to post and be mounted on the chute.
Due to an incident in the walkway, the majority of the runners were unsaddled on the track and the placed horses did not enter the Winner’s Enclosure.
An enquiry was held to consider whether Conor Ring, the rider of Annie Bonny (GB), had continued in the race when it was contrary to the horse’s welfare, before finishing eighth of eight finishers, beaten by 77 lengths.
The rider was interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The rider stated that having raced prominently throughout, Annie Bonny (GB) had started to weaken after the third last fence, which it jumped well enough.
Ring added that despite losing ground on the other runners thereafter, the mare jumped the second last fence satisfactorily and he considered that Annie Bonny (GB) still had sufficient speed and momentum in order for him to present the mare at the last fence, which it had got in tight at and pecked badly on landing.
His explanation was accepted.
Following the race, Sean Houlihan reported that Stupid Cupid (IRE), which was pulled up, stopped quickly and Sheila Lewis reported that the mare was unsuited by the going, which was officially described as Soft, Heavy in places on this occasion, and would prefer a quicker surface.
