Permission was given for Glacier Fox (GB) to be mounted in the chute and go early to post.
Jumping the first hurdle, Gilbertina (GB), placed fourth, veered left-handed carrying Alborkan (FR), placed third, across the running of Tuned For Power (IRE), which was badly hampered and later pulled up, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider why Lee Edwards, the rider of Tuned For Power (IRE), appeared slow to pull up when the gelding looked to have gone wrong on the approach to the fourth last hurdle.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
Edwards explained that, although he felt Tuned For Power (IRE) lose its action, he was too close to the hurdle and had another runner to his outside to pull up safely so he had to jump the flight but pulled up as soon as he could have done so.
His explanation was accepted.
The performance of Gilbertina (GB), which started second-favourite and finished fourth, beaten by 21¾ lengths, was considered.
Nick Kent’s explanation that the filly ran flat on this occasion and would benefit from a freshen up, was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Gilbertina (GB) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
