There appeared to be interference leaving the back straight on the first circuit involving The Captains Inn (IRE), which was later pulled up, ridden by Kielan Woods, and the winner, Licklighter (IRE), ridden by Brian Hughes.
The riders were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, after which the Stewards were satisfied that following Licklighter (IRE), improving to the inside of The Captains Inn (IRE), Hughes was already in the process of taking the gelding back of his own accord and Licklighter (IRE) had overreacted to being restrained, rather than from receiving any pressure off THE CAPTAIN'S INN (IRE) which shifted left-handed to the rail.
It was therefore found that no interference had taken place.
The performance of SMUGGLER’S BLUES (IRE), which started joint-favourite and was pulled up before the third last fence, was considered.
It was noted that the representative of Tom George could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion other than a report from the rider that SMUGGLER’S BLUES (IRE) stopped quickly.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
