The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Boxing Clever, trained by John Joseph Hanlon, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have burst a blood vessel in running The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr. W. Fleming, that G.P. Brouder, rider of Royal Avatar, had weighed out at 2Ibs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that this was the case. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards allowed the overweight, but were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Rule 198. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended him for two racedays.
