Gordon Elliott and Barry Geraghty teamed up to notch a 14-1 double at Ballinrobe.< Cabernet Sauvignon hit the bar when finishing second on his last two starts but he righted that statistic in the Connacht Telegraph Maiden Hurdle.

Sent off the 2-1 favourite, Elliott's charge scored for the first time over obstacles as he held off Good Lord by three lengths.

The handler said: "He deserved to put his head in front, he is a bit of a tricky customer. We took the white noseband off him today to try something different.

"The good ground and the sharp track really suited him. We might bring him back to Perth for something similar."< Grand Opera (4-1) completed their brace as he held off 7-2 favourite Flag Of Honour in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase.

He had to dig deep up the run in but he proved game enough and now has a possible big-race outing on the horizon.

"He's not a bad horse and he needs that ground," Elliott added.

"We will try to win another chase before going for the Galway Hurdle."< Quiet Word (7-4 favourite) followed up on his success at Tramore last month with victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Hurdle.

"He is progressing well and we'll keep him with novice company for the moment," said winning trainer Dessie Hughes.

Robbie Colgan claimed his first winner this season as Lightening Shot came good in the Rendezvous Bar Balla Handicap Chase.

The 12-1 shot was always prominent in the two-mile-one-furlong heat before asserting five fences from home to triumph by just under two lengths.

"It took her a while to get a win over fences," said trainer Joseph Fox.

"She is 20lb better off over hurdles so she will mix it over both codes during the summer."
