Jack Wildman partnered his first winner on just his third ride as Kuraka defied top-weight in the Breast Cancer Ireland Apprentice Handicap at Leopardstown.
The 16-year-old from Salisbury has been riding out in Gordon Elliott’s yard for the past few summers and is with the Longwood trainer full-time since last July.
The dual-purpose gelding, successful in a maiden hurdle at Limerick last month, was produced on the wide outside in this 23-runner 1m5f event.
The 14/1 shot struck the front inside the final furlong and Wildman eased down close home to beat Archer’s Up by half a length. Suitor was the same distance back in third, with Universal Focus completing the places in fourth.
