Trainer Dermot Weld completed a first and last races double, with newcomers, at Leopardstown today, as his Bella Estrella powered home to win the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Maiden, under jockey Pat Smullen.
Bella Estrella, a Ballylinch bred and owned daughter of High Chapparal made good headway along the running rail in the home straight and in the end stretched clear for a comfortable three and a quarter lengths win over Dochasach
Weld, whose horses have returned to form with a bang in the past fortnight, later stated “she did in nicely and picked up nicely and the jockey went down the brave man's route!
“She's a nice filly and we'll see how she progresses before making a decision. She'll probably go for a handicap.”
Weld and Smullen earlier won the opener with impressive debutante Chiara Luna
