Wounded Warrior made it third time lucky over fences when running out a comprehensive winner of the Drogheda Beginners Chase at Navan.
Bryan Cooper, recording a double for his retainers, tracked the other Gigginstown gelding Empire Of Dirt in the two-and-a-half mile contest before a good jump sent him up to challenge four out.
Noel Meade 's charge, the well supported 11/10 favourite (from 11/8), went on approaching the second last. Blood Cotil challenged briefly at that penultimate fence but had nothing left before the last and Wounded Warrior powered clear for a six-and-a-half length success.
The winner had been runner-up on his two previous starts over fences.
“I've always thought he's a very nice horse. He's a full-brother to Soldier Of Destiny but he's a much better model and he stays really well” said Meade.
“When he was beaten the first day the ground was a bit quick and the last day Paul (Carberry) said he just didn't jump that well.
“We've done a lot of schooling with him since, more than we'd normally do, basically every second day.
“He should fill out. Hopefully he'll run over Christmas and we'll see what the owners want to do.
“That's his minimum trip. Three miles would suit better.”
Cooper had earlier partnered Clarcam to success in the feature event on the card.
