Tullyveery Lad (7/2f) took full advantage of Hand Over Fist s fall at the penultimate fence to land the handicap chase on Downpatrick's card. Winding River had joined Hand Over Fist two out and was left in the lead with Tullyveery Lad now second.
The latter was worked to the front on the run-in by Donagh Meyler and saw off Winding River (11/2) by a length and a-half. Mullaghmore Wave (12/1) was another two and a-half lengths away in third.
Jockey Donagh Meyler said: "I thought so too (beaten two out), but as soon as he met the rising ground, to be fair to the horse, he stayed at it well.
"He had a chance up in Ballinrobe the last day and I fell off him so hopefully that will justify that for the guys.
"He has been a good old horse, a good old servant. Hopefully, we can get another one out of him. Hopefully, he can improve from that and get a bit of confidence from that.
"He was very good with me the day in Tramore, he didn't miss a beat. There today, he might have been slow through the air in a couple of spots, but we got him racing and as I said he stuck out his head and battled well to the line.
"I started off in Eoin Doyle's when Ray was there and sure he is a super man. He is very kind and would be always looking out for you. It is great to be riding for someone like that and to have someone like that on your side.
"He is well able to place one and he obviously does a good job."
Tullyveery Lad took a beginners' chase at Downpatrick in June.
