Jockey Davy Russell completed a hat-trick of wins at Fairyhouse today when steering Grade 1 winning chaser Bog Warrior to an effortless win in the Ryan's Cleaning Services Handicap Hurdle.
Bog Warrior's trainer Tony Martin is no stranger to short priced handicap winners but produced one of his most impressive winners in that grade as the Gigginstown House Stud owned gelding, who moved to the front before the straight, ran away from his 17 rivals for an effortless eight lengths win over Wise Oscar
Afterwards Martin stated “that's great I'm absolutely delighted and for the horse more than anything! Davy said he went down like an old pro today – he was only a baby last year. As soon as he jumped the third last he put the race to bed in a flash.
“We probably should have left him alone after the fall he got at Leopardstown as he was never right after that.
“Today's win will leave him right to have a go at something better. Ruby (Walsh) told me last year to look after him as I'll never have another one like him. Gigginstown have so much ammunition so Eddie (O'Leary, Racing Manager) and the lads will have to decide where he'll go next.”
