Thegreatjohnbrowne hurts bookies in Naas finale
Thegreatjohnbrowne with one promising run to his name, that being in a hurdle at Punchestown at the Festival, landed quite a gamble in the concluding Become A Go Racing In Kildare Member (Pro/Am) Flat Race, under the owner, Murt Doran's son, M J.
Backed from as big as 5/1 this morning into 5/4, M J was without the aid of one of his irons in the straight on the big chestnut, but he got enough of a response out of the five-year-old to see off Willie Mullins' Some Target by a length.
Winning trainer Noel Meade likes the winner and he said: "He's a gorgeous horse but that's it for him in bumpers now. They went very slow there and that wouldn't have suited, he wants a good gallop.
"He jumps well and he'll go to Leopardstown at Christmas. He was going to run a very nice race at Punchestown before unshipping M J at the last. He was still a bit green out there today.
"I think a lot of him and if he stays right he'll be a good horse."
