Bargain buy Khafaaq (9/1) notched a seventh career win today completing a Limerick double, and a third winner in succession, for his trainer Andy Slattery in the Follow Limerick On Twitter Handicap.
Bought for 5,000gns by current connections in 2018 as a once-raced Hamdam Al Maktoum-owned castoff, Khafaaq today added Limerick to his list of Cork, Dundalk, Gowran, Galway, Punchestown and Tipperary winning racecourses, scoring under jockey Cian Horgan.
Slattery had been successful with earlier winner Independent Expert in yesterday's Down Royal's finale and at Hexham last Saturday and at Limerick the trainer's brother and assistant Brian Slattery said “we're getting spoilt with these winners!
“We won the last race at Down Royal yesterday and while Roy (Collins, Khafaaq's owner) is actually from Down Royal, wasn't there yesterday as he was driving a digger. He is staying down here this weekend so we're delighted for him.
“Khafaaq seems rejuvenated and he ran a cracker in a claimer the last day when he was in to be claimed for €8,000 but fortunately he wasn't bought.”
