Romantic Proposal put in an impressive seasonal reappearance in the Listed Anglesey Lodge Equine Woodlands Stakes.
Eddie Lynam 's mare won last season's Group One Flying Five at the Curragh (and took the scalp of A Case Of You).
She was absolutely tanking along for Chris Hayes on the far rail a furlong and a half from home as the pair tracked the leader Geocentric
She was soon switched out and Hayes pushed her along to readily sweep by Geocentric in the final 100 yards. The snug winner scored by three parts of a length at 3/1 from the 11/4 runner-up. Mooneista last year's winner and the 7/4 favourite for this assignment, stumbled slightly a furlong and a half out before finishing well in third of the seven runners.
Lynam said: “I just tick away with her and haven’t done a lot with her. She was good.
“They have done a good job here with the ground. They just took the sting out of the ground and she was fine on it. The dream is still alive.
“I knew she was in great form but I thought she might just need it. She has definitely got stronger.
“She came back from her winter break looking brilliant and hasn’t missed a day. In hindsight 3/1 about a Group 1 winner in a Listed race might have been a bit of value!
“She is in two Group 2 six-furlong races next month, the Greenlands and the Duke Of York.
“The jockey and the trainer are sitting on the fence as regards her best trip so we’ll probably run her over six and then make up our mind about Royal Ascot.
“The Duke Of York is sponsored by a certain crowd called Clipper Logistics but the Greenlands is a lot nearer home!” Additional reporting by Alan Magee
