Star too bright for Gar
Cottage Star despite proving a little uneasy in the betting, put up a performance in keeping with his breeding to take the Curaheen (Pro/Am) Flat Race on his racecourse bow under Nina Carberry.
The chestnut son of Accordion and that very good racemare, Sallie's Girl, pulled out plenty when required to see off the gambled on Our Gar (6/1 into 11/4) by two and a half lengths.
Cottage Star is a big attractive sort and this was the perfect start to what will surely be a fruitful career over jumps. It was no surprise to hear Nina describe the Joe Shaughnessy-bred & owned and Noel Meade-trained five-year-old as a stayer.
