Bred at Borris House County Carlow like last Friday’s Gold Cup third placer, Lostintranslation, Song Of Earth landed the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Wexford today.
The five-year-old Mahler gelding atoned for a disappointing debut at Limerick at Christmas, stepping up markedly from an eighth of nine effort then, again in the hands of Richie Deegan, to account for eight opponents here.
Deegan made all on Mag Mullins’ charge, and he asked for more entering the straight.
Song Of Earth stayed on well inside the final furlong to beat well-backed point-to-point winner, South Terrace by a length and three parts.
“I’m delighted. I was so disappointed after Limerick but he just got so stuck in the ground. It was real heavy ground at Limerick,” said Ms Mullins.
“I said to Richie going out today to keep to the wide outside and I don’t care if you get beaten for going that wide as the better ground is out there.
“I was disappointed at Limerick as his work was good and his work was great coming here today.
“I’m glad that we are back on course as I think he’s a lovely horse. He’ll be a jumper down the line and he has a lovely pedigree.”
